Pengaruh Video Games terhadap Fungsi Kognitif Lansia: Sebuah Literature Review

Abstract

Video games berpotensi untuk dikembangkan kepada lansia karena dapat menstimulasi otak. Stimulus yang diberikan dapat mencegah atrofi pada otak sehingga potensi menurunnya kemampuan otak dalam memproses informasi dapat berkurang. Studi ini bertujuan untuk menelaah pengaruh penggunaan video games terhadap fungsi kognitif lansia. Peneliti melakukan studi literature pada artikel yang diterbitkan dalam 5 tahun terakhir. Penelusuran artikel dilakukan melalui database Pubmed dan ProQuest. Sebanyak 7 artikel masuk dalam kriteria seleksi dengan desain penelitian quasi experiment dan randomized control trial, dari 931 pencarian dengan kata kunci lansia, fungsi kognitif, dan video game. Seluruh artikel (100%) menunjukan bahwa video games berdampak positif terhadap fungsi kognitif lansia yang ditandai dengan peningkatan materi abu-abu di dalam hippocampus. Pengelola panti wredha atau keluarga dapat menyediakan video games secara berkala untuk menstimulasi fungsi kognitif lansia.
