Publication Ethics

PUBLICATION ETHICS

This statement explains the ethical behavior of all parties involved in the act of publishing articles in this journal, including the authors, editor in chief, Editorial Board, peer-reviewers, and publishers. This statement is based on COPE International Standards for Journal Editor and Writer.

A. ETHICAL GUIDELINES FOR JOURNAL PUBLICATION

The ethics of the publication of the Jurnal Semesta Sehat (J-Mestahat) is the responsibility of the journal publisher and editor. They are also committed to producing editorial decisions without being influenced by commercialization and pressure from any party.

B. DECISION OF PUBLICATION

The editor of the Jurnal Semesta Sehat (J-Mestahat) is responsible for deciding articles to be published. The decision is based on validation and the importance of research. Decisions are guided by the policies of the journal editorial board and are limited by applicable legal requirements relating to defamation, copyright infringement, and plagiarism. The editors can communication with other editors or reviewers in making this decision.

C. EDITOR POLICIES

  1. Editorial Principles
    1. Editor is responsible for accountability and journal content based on procedures and policies that apply to maintain its quality and integrity.
    2. Independence and editorial integrity are an important part of the responsibility for making fair and impartial decisions. This includes separating decision-making from commercial and political considerations and ensuring that papers are reviewed on purely scientific grounds.
    3. The editor protects the confidentiality of the author's material and the identity of the reviewer. This confidentiality process is supported by a web-based article submission system
    4. The editor provides guidance for authors who encourage transparency and complete and honest reporting. The guide regulates the obligation for the authors to declare funding sources and relevant financial and non-financial conflicts of interest. Digital image files, images and tables must comply with the appropriate standards in the field. Images must not be altered improperly from the original findings in a misleading manner.
    5. The editor carries out excessive plagiarism, duplication or publication tests using anti-plagiarism software
    6. Editor ensures the integrity of articles published through the correction process. The editor takes action based on the level of errors that occur. These actions can be:
      1. Article replacement for the article found by editorial errors or in rare cases, there is a conflicting result which if left unchecked can pose serious health risks. The process is that the editor will replace the published article with a new one that has been corrected by the author and checked by editors, then it will be informed in the history of the document and on the announcement page.
      2. Article retraction for the article that has been published had violations of professional code of ethics, like multiple submissions, bogus claims of authorship, plagiarism, fraudulent use of data, or like. Retracted means article content (HTML and PDF) is deleted and replaced with HTML and PDF pages stating that the article has been retracted in accordance with Periodic Epidemiology Journal (JBE) Policy.
      3. Article removal for the article violates the law based on the provisions of the court. In this case, the article will be deleted and will be replaced with a statement that the article was deleted for legal reasons.
  1. Editorial Processes

a. Decision whether to review

Articles that first enter the journal will be reviewed by the Editor first. Paper can be rejected at that stage especially if it is not in accordance with the aim and scope of the journal or the quality is poor. This decision is made objectively.

b. Interaction with peer reviewers

    • The editor must select a peer-review who is appropriate to the expertise in the field of the article. The editor ensures that the review process is carried out in accordance with the specified time. Editorial policy changes must be periodically notified to all peer reviews. Specifically, peer reviewers must be asked to assess ethical issues of research and publication (that is, whether they think the research was conducted and reported ethically, or if they have suspicions about plagiarism, falsification, or excessive publication).
    • The editor has the right to disqualify the reviewer if he does not carry out the assignment as stated above. Editors must monitor the quality and timeliness of peer reviews and to provide feedback to reviewers.

c. Process of articles to be published

Articles to be published have gone through the process of plagiarism checking using the Turnitin application and have been corrected by an internationally certified professional proofreader.

  1. Editorial Decision-Making

a. Editorial and journal process

All editorial processes must be made clear in the information for the author. All editors must understand the journal's policies, vision, and scope. The final responsibility for all decisions rests with the editor in chief.

b. Editorial conflicts of interest

Editorial conflicts of interest may not be involved in decisions about papers where they have a conflict of interest, for example if they work or have worked in the same institution and collaborate with the author, if they own shares in a particular company, or if they have a personal relationship with the author .

D. REVIEWERS POLICIES

  1. Contribution to Editorial Decisions

Peer review helps editors make editorial decisions and through editorial communication with the author. Reviewers can also help author to improve the quality of papers according to their expertise.

  1. Accuracy

If the referee cannot review the article in accordance with the specified time. The reviewer can raise objections or be unable to carry out the task as a temporary reviewer.

  1. Confidentiality
  • Reviewers must treat the received Article as a confidential document.
  • Without the permission of the editors, they may not be shown or discussed with others.
  1. Objectivity Standards

Reviews must be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the writer is inappropriate. Referees must express their views clearly with supporting arguments.

  1. Recognition of Sources

The reviewer must identify the relevant published work that has not been cited by the author.

  1. Disclosure and Conflict of Interest

Information or special ideas obtained through peer review must be kept confidential and not used for personal gain. Keeping this in mind, the reviewer is not given an author's identity. So it is expected to avoid Conflict of interest reviewers and author.

E. AUTHOR policies

  1. Content of Article
    • Researchers must use the methods of analyzing and displaying the right data, checking calculations, and presenting data, and must be responsible for the contents of their publications.
    • Researchers must present honestly the pictures, research tables, and other results found in the study, without any falsification or manipulation of inappropriate or misleading data.
    • Researchers must try to describe their methods to present their findings clearly and unambiguously.
    • Researchers must follow the reporting guidelines and the writing of the Article that applies in the Jurnal Semesta Sehat (J-Mestahat).
    • The research report must be complete.
    • Writers who cite other people's work, then the identity of the work must be clearly written both in quotations and references.
    • Authors are not permitted to copy references from other publications if they have never read the cited work.
    • Article that involving experiments on living animals both vertebrates and higher invertebrates must confirm that all experiments are carried out in accordance with relevant guidelines and regulations. The Article must include a statement identifying the licensing committee that approved the trial, including relevant details. Articles lacking ethical considerations for human or animal subjects will be rejected for publication in the Jurnal Semesta Sehat (J-Mestahat).
    • Research texts that conduct experiments with human subjects, must identify the committee that approves the experiment and must include a statement confirming that informed consent was obtained from all subjects. Authors who use phase II and III randomized controlled trials in their studies should refer to the CONSORT Statement for recommendations that facilitate the reporting of complete and transparent trial findings.
  2. Originality
    • Applicable copyright laws and conventions must be obeyed. The results of previous studies must be recognized and correctly cited.
    • Data, text, images or ideas originating from other sources must be cited correctly
    • The author must notify the editor if the findings have been previously published or are being considered for publication elsewhere.
    • Adaptations for different audiences must be clearly identified as such, must recognize the original source, and must respect copyright conventions and relevant permit requirements. If in doubt, the author must seek permission from the original publisher before republishing any work.
  3. Authorship and Acknowledgement
    • All research funding sources, including direct and indirect financial support such as equipment or material supplies, and other support such as specialist statistics or writing assistance must be recognized and disclosed.
    • All people who meet the writing criteria are listed as writers, i.e. all those who actively participate in the research and writing of articles and are responsible for the contents of the writing starting from the preparation and writing of concepts, designs, analysis, to the revision of the Article.
  1. Adherence to peer review and publication conventions
    • Articles submitted in the Jurnal Semesta Sehat (J-Mestahat) are not Articles that have been published or are in process in other publications
    • Articles submitted in the Jurnal Semesta Sehat (J-Mestahat) are not permitted to be submitted to other publications at the same time.
    • Authors must notify editors if they withdraw their work from reviews, or choose not to respond to reviewers' comments after receiving a conditional acceptance. The journal will give penalty to the author, if in the middle of the review process, the author wants to withdraw their article.
    • Authors must respond to reviewers' comments in a professional and timely manner.
    • Authors must immediately notify editors if they find errors in every work submitted, received, or published. If a violation of professional code of ethics is found, such as multiple submissions, false claims of authorship, plagiarism, fraudulent use of data or the like in the Article, the author will be expected to take joint responsibility for the integrity of the research and report and must cooperate with the editor in issuing replacement, retraction, or removal, if is required.
